Introduction to Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and History of TNEB

TNEB Limited is an energy holding company owned by the government of Tamil Nadu. It was established under section 131 of the Electricity Act (2003) as the successor to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

History of TNEB:
TNEB was established on 1 July 1957, the Electricity Commission Madras State under the Act's electricity supply in 1948 as the successor of the former Ministry of Madras government power under the authority of the Ministry of Food. He was responsible for power generation, distribution and transmission, and regulates the supply of electricity in the state of Tamil Nadu. Later, it was renamed Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

In October 2008, the Government of Tamil Nadu decided to split into three companies TNEB. On 1st November, 2010, TNEB Limited became a holding company with two subsidiary corporations. They are Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), the main reason for the production of electricity, and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO), responsible for power transmission. They have also introduced facility for consumers to easily pay your bills online sitting at home. Tamil Nadu electricity board has really progressed in the implementation of IT projects.
